Make it! 4 Spring trends you can TOTALLY DIY now
I got an email this morning from Polyvore that showed a bunch of super cute dresses and accessories. Many were selling for thousands of dollars. Being a crafty DIY’er (and I know you are, too,) I was like, “I KNOW there are free patterns to make this stuff myself.” I did a little looking and found some amazing free patterns and tutorials for all of the most popular trends you will be seeing in fashion this Spring.
Um, Yeah! Let’s do that!
I’d love to carry one of these, but the price tags are a little much for me to spend on a trend. This simple leather Proenza Schouler bag is $1425. Chanel’s whimsical denim bag with chains and fringe costs $4,000 – and that’s pre-owned!
DIY Fix: Use this free pattern from Sew Mama Sew to make your own bucket bag!

With this free bucket bag pattern from Sew Mama Sew, a couple yards of denim (or scraps from your old jeans if you save them,) and hardware, you can definitely get the designer look for less than $50. Add fringe and tassels to make it even more on trend. And have no fear…even if you are new to sewing bags, she walks you through the construction and hardware and makes it easy.
This shift dress from Neiman Marcus is listed at $350.
DIY Fix: Make this adorable free shift dress pattern from iCandy Handmade!

This pattern for a custom-fit, easy-sew shift dress is FREE. Make this for the cost of just fabric. (Tip: Joann often sends a coupon for 30%-50% off a single item…hello fabric for less!)
I am a sucker for a sparkly, shiny pair of shoes, and these are just so fun….but I’d rather just update than buy a brand new pair. (Plus, if you ask me, sparkle isn’t a trend. It’s a lifestyle. I’ll wear these forever!)
DIY fix: Use metallic spray paint on your flats from last season!

This fabulous post from Brit & Co. shows how to spray paint your flats to give them a new look. Do just the tops as they did, or go crazy and spray the whole outside of the shoe to match the trend.
This is adorable LAGOS pendant would really look cute with tee and jeans (or shift dress and sparkly silver shoes.) It is listed at $295.
DIY fix: Use owl charms and chain to make your own owl pendant necklace!
I happen to know that Michaels Crafts Stores carry owl pendants that look very similar to this one…only they are under $4.
I have some chain left from my Darby Smart Agate pendant project. So…let’s put it together! Maybe I will do a few of these in silver, and also in gold!
Have you tried making any of these trends? Tell me about it in the comments!
